Why Storytelling Turns Followers into Buyers
How do you share what you think and feel about your art in a way that
allows people to feel connected?
It’s something they already want- they joined your world through your email list.
When someone opens your emails, what do you give them?
An enjoyable, feel good story?
A connection to the places or things that you paint?
Or a list of places they can buy or see your art, without any real connection to you other than you made it?
When you think about it, people love to be told stories, especially stories they can relate to.
When you make a connection to someone through your art, you have a life long fan.
People don’t always want to make up their own stories, they want to identify with someone else’s story- it creates connection, and humans are wired for connection.
Stop thinking that sharing the story you create or feel when you make your art isn’t what others want to hear- it’s exactly what they want to hear. People watch movies and TV every day. Why? Because they can lose themselves in a story that is not their own. Art is similar- your story is not theirs, but they relate to it in a way that makes them feel good.
Understand the way that people buy art, and you understand how to share your story in a way that reflects their own lives and what is important to them.
You also create a fan that will one day turn into a buyer.
You don’t have to be a master storyteller- you already have things in common, or they wouldn’t have joined your list. They are primed to like what you write.
By sharing your art and inspiration stories regularly through emails sent directly to them, you make it much more likely that they will follow you and buy something.
All you have to do is to regularly (but not every time) make them aware of what they can buy when they are ready, and make it easy for them to do so. I’ll show you how in the next post!
